Off in the Distance

from the flat files

This is a plein air piece from my last visit to Sedona.
Not sure how this ended up in my flat files.

Hello Doug. I hope you are still talking to me after my rather blunt comment a few days ago. I really like this painting and I take my hat off to you. The brushwork is confident and expressive. The colours harmonious yet bold. This is the real Doug Daniels we love and appreciate. Hope you are now feeling much happier and content. Your friend Roger.

Hi Roger,
You have nothing to fear about making an honest and straight forward comment to me. That is what I requested and you were honest enough to reply with the truth. That particular painting will go in the flat file to be found about 10 years from now.

I'm doing fine, thanks for asking.
I really appreciate your comments Roger. You have a wonderful way with words and expressing your thoughts. I enjoy just reading your comments.

Take care my friend,

Love the colors and the lines that carry your eye across the piece.

I was in Sedona twice on my recent travels and it has something magic to it! I like your painting...I like them all :)

TheChieftess said... the colors!!! It definitely rings of Sedona!!! As a matter of does a good job of capturing the essence of "Red Rock Fever" which infected me the first time I went home and started searching for jobs there...never did make the move, but have been back and plan to go back many more times!!

I really love way you have captured this. When examining the painting up close it looks like a jumble of abstract and random notes but taking a step back it all comes together to capture the rock, the line of the land
and the energy of that place. That's the magic of painting isn't it?
I've been to Sedona, didn't paint, but think I need to go back and do so.
It is a very magical place.

Thanks Chieftess,
Last time I was there about half the people I talked to that had little shops were all visitors at some point and just never went home.
The colors are a real eye opener for this midwestern boy. Basically went around with my mouth open.
Hey, is it cocktail time again?

Thanks Deb, it was certainly a magical place for painting. Before our initial visit, I was sort of in a painters block. The visit there certainly unlocked that door. I'm glad you like the painting, I always love your comments.

Checked out your blog. Like all the pieces, but really like the watercolor pieces, especially the cat. Awesome. I'll be back over to check further.
